Chase Campbell of SizeUp Reveals that Value Offerings Help Physical Stores Compete with E-Commerce Buinesses

January 10, 2020 – Even in the digital age where e-commerce has begun to reign supreme, conventional physical stores can have rags-to-riches stories to tell. One such journey of smart entrepreneurship is that of Chase Campbell, Founder & CEO of Size UP. Back in 2012, Campbell started the company when he was 19 years old.

Today, Size Up has no less than eight physical stores, that sell sports and fitness apparels to thousands of customers. There is also a new Size Up Apparel store online, a brand well established in the minds of target customers – young men and women with a passion for staying fit, going to the gym and flashing their muscles around.

Size Up stands out as a prime example of how sheer will to succeed can bring rewards sooner than one expects. This despite the growing presence of online retail, which would soon account for over 17 percent of the global retail market. Size Up had several obstacles to overcome before it could reach its present state.

Campbell’s family was facing financial hurdles and homelessness after his father lost his job to outsourcing. Knowing that he had to make quick money, he found fitness and sports as the best sectors where he could do a quick selling job. Chase Campbell capitalized on his skill of finding deals that were better than what customers were currently paying for.

The physical store of Size Up turned out to be nearby, as Chase had his friend’s dad’s vacant plaza to count on. With the help of another of his friends (Chase didn’t have a credit score as he was just nineteen and without a credit card). The ‘Grand Opening’ wasn’t anything to remember. But when Chase began to offer special gifts, merchandise and free goodies that came with his products, there was no stopping the queue of customers. The humble beginnings with loads of hard work have now seemed to pay off as Size Up boasts stores in 8 locations across the US, including 6 in Michigan, 1 in Las Vegas and 1 in South Florida. With more expansions projected, the public is primed to expect stores in more locations across the US, and possibly the world at large.

When the online site of Size Up went live, it didn’t attract much traffic as expected. The brand value had still not been registered in the minds of its customers. Campbell then tried a novel trick and started dispatching a postcard with great coupon discounts with each delivery.

Our strategy to offer great value in pricing and quality set the Size Up store apart right from its inception. In a world of fabricated pricing, we are cut from a different cloth,” says Chase Campbell.

Size Up has many lessons to offer other budding entrepreneurs who have or want to start a brick and mortar store. Offering customer delight that can’t be obtained online is crucial to attracting customers in person. Inviting celebrities, athletes and local sporting heroes also helped Size Up make a different impact. In addition, a visit to the store means having a chance to get memorabilia, take part in raffles, or enjoy special events. Finally, Size Up has utilized social media to broadcast and engage customers with a variety of stories.
